Fedora 45 finally crossed the finish line after a double delay earlier this month. On October 22 the release team called NO-GO, citing blocker bugs and the absence of a properly composed release candidate. A second NO-GO followed last week, but the issues were resolved over the past seven days, and a final Go/No-Go meeting declared Fedora 45 ready with an official launch date of November 3, 2026.

Fedora Workstation 45 ships with GNOME 51 as the default desktop environment, delivering improved animation smoothness, refined window tiling gestures, and preview features for local speech transcription — a first step toward offline voice capabilities on enterprise desktops. Server and cloud editions get a comprehensive software stack refresh: the Go programming language advances to 1.27, Python moves to 3.15, the C/C++ compiler suite reaches GCC 16.2, glibc upgrades to 2.44, the LLVM project lands at version 23, and the package manager shifts to RPM 6.1.

RPM 6.1 deserves particular attention because Fedora 46 — targeting mid-2027 — is reportedly considering a migration to an entirely new RPM v6 package format. Shipping RPM 6.1 now gives Fedora's CI pipelines and downstream rebuild ecosystems several months of integration testing under real-world loads before that potentially disruptive change.

For enterprises evaluating Fedora as an upstream basis for Red Hat Enterprise Linux derivatives or standalone deployments, the release provides an updated platform for cloud-native development, container build pipelines, and edge-compute nodes requiring recent language runtimes and compilers without third-party repositories.
